This site showcases my Christian polygamy
novel, The Prince of Sumba.
In story form I will explain what the Bible says Christian marriage is (or should
be) and show that polygamy and monogamy are both valid forms of Christian marriage.
I'll back up what I write with Scriptural references on polygamy and analyze commonly
quoted polygamy verses as well as the more obscure polygamy verses. My purpose is to
inspire the reader to witness to those who for practicing polygamy have been largely
ignored by the "Western Church." Since
Biblical polygamy includes only Polygyny
(a
man having more than one wife and not the reverse) I'll use the term Polygyny
or plural marriage from here
on when referring to this type of marriage.

From Her Memoirs
Given Me by John
"Prince John warmed more than just the
hearts of the peasants. He knew well the spell he could cast with a smile and I,
Princess Kasmina, was not immune to his charms. I treasure still the small gifts
he gave me as a child. Ever since I was a little girl my heart beat faster
whenever the prince approached. I dreamed of Prince John at night and when I
woke my daydreams of him would begin. I dreamed of riding off into the sunset on
royal stallions, the prince escorting me through his island paradise. I dreamed
of ascending mountain peaks, John at my side, to gaze at distant islands
embraced by the sea's warm blue waters. Would that I were one of those islands
and John were the sea. Tall and strong, John should me mine! However this could
not be. All the palace princesses knew John was first in line to the throne. As
such he was expected to take many foreign princess brides to strengthen the now
delicate alliance. Yet Prince John was all my little heart desired. Only the
year before John's manly voyage, I, Princess Kasmina, was a little girl. Now I
was thirteen and required to wear a veil since I was of marriageable age. Of
course we princesses rarely marry so young since our high status attracts many
suitors, but the veil is our custom and I looked forward to wearing it as an
indication that I was a woman. I was convinced Prince John was secretly in love
with me and I prayed five times daily that he would defy custom and take me as
his bride. I wished I could run away to return secretly behind my veil as one of
his 'foreign' brides. I knew he could easily keep me in his harem without
anyone's knowing my true identity. After all, it would be better to have one
tenth of John then 100% of any of the other princes in the kingdom. Alas, poor
Kasmina, I knew only too well that I could never bring up such a plan to the
prince for the mere doing so would be scandalous and would lower me in his eyes.
It was my lot to keep my love for John as secret as my dreams. I wondered if he
could see the loving looks I gave him through the tiny slits in my veil as I
peered at him each time that he spoke with me. I wanted to shout out my love for
him but destiny had other plans. There would be a husband for me, that one and
only who had truly had been selected by the hand of the Lord. I still pray five
times a day for John, not that I may have him but that he would continue on his
pursuit of the destiny that the Lord has placed before him. The Lord has already
led him to many destinies. I have met some of them."
As these last words of Princess Kasmina's
story were told, a loud crashing came from the hallway. John's three wives as
well as my wife, Mary, fell into the room. Apparently they'd all been leaning
against the door listening. They got up giggling and John's third wife, Tisa,
said, "Wow, I'm a destiny!" At this we all broke into a fit of laughter that
seemed to last a good half hour but more likely was only a couple of minutes. I
guess that's why they call it a fit of laughter because you lose all track of
time. It was still early, by the clock, just past 8 and we were ready for a
break from story telling. My stomach had flattened just enough after that
spectacular dinner to nibble on some native pastries the women had laid out on a
tray. They called it an evening merienda. It didn't matter to me what they
called it I was quickly accustoming myself to the royal treatment John had been
giving us. After what we'd learned that night I understood that indeed, by
definition, any guest of John would receive royal treatment.
After having
our snack John asked if we wouldn't mind holding a prayer meeting. As we prayed
I noticed something deeper about John's prayers. His prayers included names,
places, needs, and blessings. No unspoken prayers here. If John were going to
include your special person in his prayer he wanted to know their name, age,
marital status, occupation, any children they might have etc. In other words he
wanted to know them. How warming it was that a stranger wanted to know the
circumstances surrounding our special friend's need for prayer, to know them so
well that when he prayed he could pray not just for them but empathetically with
them. He wanted to be a part of their life. He knew he was. How little we know
of prayer if we do not realize that in our prayers the Lord walks with us among
the dear people we pray for ministering to them with us. Much of this I hid in
my heart to remember in my prayer sessions for the seven single ladies Sam had
assigned to my "headship." Learning to pray was something my 10 years of
ministry hadn't taught me. After listening to John pray I wondered how I could
ever pray for another person again if I weren't willing to be with them in
spirit as the Lord ministered to them. I prayed right there that the Lord would
give me this gift for loving and for praying that John had. I knew the Lord had
answered my prayer later that night as I prayed for the seven single women of
Sam's church.
